Have a little summer fun without leaving the city! From popular city attractions to free festivals and events, summer excitement can be found throughout Atlanta.
City Classics
Stone Mountain Park: It wouldn’t be summer without an evening at the Laser Show. Make a day out of your visit and take advantage of all the outdoor sights and activities the park has to offer. This year they have a new Lift Every Voice Drone & Light Show which boasts ten times more lumens, ten times larger video projection, and ten times more laser beams.
Atlanta Botanical Gardens: Don’t miss out on the garden’s summer must see exhibit – Alice's Wonderland– featuring 38 larger-than-life sculptures in seven installations inspired by Lewis Carroll’s timeless tales.
Atlanta City Pass: If the big Atlanta attractions are on your summer to-do list, the Atlanta City Pass is the way to go! An $99 ticket ($79 for children) gives you access to 5 of Atlanta’s top attractions within a 9 day period. The attractions to choose from are: Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and Zoo Atlanta, and then you can choose 2 of the following attractions: The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Fernbank or The College Football Hall of Fame.
A Little Out of the Ordinary
Atlanta History Center: Often forgotten about, the History Center has spent the last few years revitalizing their grounds to attract more visitors, and the results do not disappoint! Plus, the center is now home to the newly restored Cyclorama.
Georgia State Parks: Head out on a short afternoon hike or plan a weekend escape – with over 60 state parks to choose from, the possibilities are endless.
Treetop Quest: Feeling adventurous? Dunwoody’s Brook Run Park has an obstacle and zip line course high in the trees! With courses for ages 4 and up – your whole family can join in on the fun.
Indoor Adventures Escape Rooms: With multiple escape rooms located across the metro area, I recommend doing an online search for the room closest to you (paying close attention to reviews). The AJC covered their top Atlanta escape room picks here.
iFly: Learn to fly at Atlanta’s only indoor skydiving facility. Pricing packages differ depending on how many ‘flights’ you want to take – but all include equipment rental, training, and a flight instructor to help you make the most of this one-of-a-kind experience.
Central Rock Gym: Beginners and experienced climbers will be impressed with Central Rock Gym's indoor climbing facilities. Day passes and memberships available at their Atlanta, Kennesaw, and Midtown locations.
Sloomoo Institute: Sloomoo is an immersive experience based on slime and all things satisfying. Located in Buckhead, they offer all kinds of fun activities and themes for the summer months!
Festivals and Limited-Time Events
Monster Jam (June 20 - 22nd): Missed your chance to see Monster Jam in Atlanta? It will be in Athens this June at the Akins Ford Arena for the first time! Get ready to cheer, scream, and be amazed as massive Monster Jam® trucks and world champion drivers take over Athens for a weekend packed with high-flying action and jaw-dropping stunts.
Repticon (July 12 -13): See tons of exotic reptiles and animals from all around the world at Repticon - taking place at the Gwinnett County Fairground.
Atlanta Ice Cream Festival (July 26): The beauty of Piedmont Park mixed with the deliciousness of ice cream…what’s not to love?
