Concerts in the Park and Movies After Dark: A Summertime Delight in North Atlanta

One of my absolute favorite things about summer in North Atlanta is the plethora of affordable and enjoyable activities that come our way. From outdoor concerts to movies under the stars, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. And the best part? Many of these events are free!

Whether you’re looking for a fun night out with the kids, a casual date, or a chance to catch up with friends, there are plenty of options close to home. Here are a few of my personal favorites to add to your summer calendar:

Alpharetta & Cumming:

- Avalon Nights Live: Every Friday night at Avalon Plaza, grab dinner, do some shopping, and settle in for live music from 6 to 8 p.m. It’s an easy way to transform an ordinary Friday into a memorable night out.

- Home by Dark: On select Saturday evenings at Brooke Street Park, enjoy live music in one of Alpharetta’s most beautiful outdoor settings. Bring a chair or blanket and relax and soak in the music.

Brookhaven & Chamblee:

- Movies on the Town: If you’re in the mood for a movie night, check out Movies on the Town at Town Brookhaven. Thursday evenings feature a variety of family-friendly and adult-oriented films. Bring a blanket and settle in for a movie under the stars.

- Summer Concert Series: Chamblee also hosts its own Summer Concert Series, featuring live music on select summer evenings.

Dunwoody:

- Concerts in the Park: Dunwoody’s parks come alive with concerts during the summer. Check out the schedule to see what’s happening in your area.

- Movies After Dark: Dunwoody also hosts Movies After Dark, where you can enjoy a movie under the stars in a beautiful outdoor setting.

So, there you have it! A list of some of my favorite summer activities in North Atlanta. Whether you’re looking for live music, movies, or just a relaxing evening out, there’s something for everyone.

Groovin’ on the Green at Brook Run Park is the epitome of a perfect summer event. It’s a free, family-friendly concert held in the park’s amphitheater. Bring your chairs, grab some food and drinks, and let the music take over.

For movie enthusiasts, Pics in the Park at Pernshal Park is another fantastic option. The movies are free, and so are the popcorn, candy, and giveaways. It’s an unbeatable combination!

Downtown Duluth knows how to make the most of summer. Fridays-N-Duluth is a weekly event that features food trucks, live music, and family entertainment. They also have special themed nights and outdoor movies mixed into the schedule.

Just down the road, Norcross hosts its Summer Concert Series at Thrasher Park. The concerts run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., making it a great choice for a post-dinner music experience before the evening gets too late.

Johns Creek and Peachtree Corners are also home to plenty of outdoor entertainment. Flicks on the Green at Town Center showcases movies on the first Saturday of each month. Bring a blanket, relax on the lawn, and enjoy a movie under the stars.

Town Center also offers two live-music options: Night Music, featuring local bands, and its Summer Concert Series, featuring bands from all over the country.

Johns Creek’s Movies at Newtown Park is a family favorite, offering free movies on a massive inflatable screen. For live music enthusiasts, Newtown Park’s Summer Concert Series is a must-visit. It features a diverse lineup, from tribute bands to the renowned Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra.

Roswell and Sandy Springs offer a variety of outdoor music experiences. Music on the Hill at City Hall provides a relaxed atmosphere for enjoying live music on select Friday nights. You can spread out a blanket, bring a picnic, and immerse yourself in the music.

Roswell Riverside Sounds is another local tradition that shouldn’t be missed. This free concert series takes place at Riverside Park on select Saturdays and has been a beloved event for years.

In Sandy Springs, City Green Live and Concerts by the Springs bring live music to City Springs’ beautiful outdoor amphitheater.
