Father’s Day Fun Around Atlanta

If Dad already has enough ties, golf shirts, grilling tools and “World’s Best Dad” coffee mugs to last a lifetime, maybe it’s time to give him something he can’t put in a drawer: a fun day together!

One of the things I love about living in North Atlanta is that we have so many ways to celebrate special occasions without having to travel very far. And Father’s Day is a perfect excuse to get the family out of the house and make a few memories together.

Whether your dad is a sports fan, an outdoorsman, a foodie or someone who simply enjoys a little excitement, Atlanta has something for him.

For the Sports-Loving Dad

If Dad bleeds Braves blue, a game at Truist Park is hard to beat. Grab some food, enjoy the atmosphere and let Dad pretend he’s managing from the stands. Honestly, isn't that half the fun?

For soccer fans, the FIFA Club World Cup also brought international excitement to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, giving Atlanta families another chance to experience some of the world's best soccer right here at home.

And if football is more Dad's speed, the College Football Hall of Fame is always a fun choice. It's part museum, part interactive experience and part playground for anyone who has ever spent a Saturday yelling at a television over a questionable referee call.

For the Outdoorsy Dad

Some dads would rather be outside than anywhere else, and Atlanta gives them plenty of opportunities.

The Chattahoochee Nature Center is a wonderful choice for a Father's Day outing, particularly for families who enjoy hiking, wildlife and getting a little closer to nature. Pack a picnic, explore the trails and spend some time together away from the screens.

You could also turn the day into an adventure on the water with a canoe outing. Just remember: Dad doesn't automatically get to be captain!

For the Dad Who Likes a Little Competition

If Dad considers himself a golfer, Topgolf makes Father's Day pretty easy. You don't have to be a great golfer to have fun, and the food and comfortable setting mean everyone can participate—even the family member who thinks a seven-iron is a fancy kitchen utensil.

For something faster-paced, consider Andretti Karting & Games. Nothing brings a family together quite like discovering that Mom has apparently been hiding her competitive side for 20 years.

For the Car Guy

Have a dad who knows every Porsche model ever made?

The Porsche Experience Center Atlanta offers driving experiences that let participants get behind the wheel and experience these cars in a whole new way. For serious car enthusiasts, it's definitely a Father's Day experience rather than just another afternoon out.

There are also NASCAR-style driving and ride-along experiences around Atlanta for dads who prefer their Father's Day plans to come with a little more horsepower.

And Then There's Dinner

Of course, no Father's Day adventure is complete without food.

Atlanta has no shortage of restaurants that make a great excuse to let Dad skip the grill for once. Steak houses, Brazilian steakhouses and neighborhood favorites all offer options for a family celebration.

And here's my advice after 30 years of living and working around North Atlanta: make the reservation early.

Father's Day has a funny way of sneaking up on everyone, and the popular restaurants fill quickly.

Make It About Time Together

At the end of the day, Dad probably doesn't need another thing.

He'll remember the Braves game. The canoe ride. The terrible golf shots. The go-kart race where someone took things way too seriously. And especially having everyone together.

That's the real gift.

So skip the predictable present this year. Pick an activity, grab the family and spend a day exploring a little bit of the Atlanta we’re lucky enough to call home.

After all, the best Father's Day gifts aren't always wrapped—they're the ones you talk about long after the day is over.
