U-Pick a Winner: Top Blueberry Farms in North Georgia

Georgia summers are meant to be enjoyed outside — and blueberry season is one of my favorite reasons to get out and explore.

There’s something special about a warm summer morning, a bucket in hand and rows of ripe blueberries waiting to be picked. Whether you’re taking the kids or grandkids, stocking up for summer baking, or just looking for an easy day trip, a local u-pick farm is a great way to enjoy the season.

Here are a few of my favorite blueberry farms around North Georgia, including some close-to-home options. Farm hours and availability can change quickly during picking season, so check the farm’s website or social media before you go.

Close to Home

Cool Springs Blueberry Farm — Gainesville

An easy drive up GA-400, this family-friendly five-acre farm offers u-pick blueberries along with family events and seasonal activities.

Berry Patch Farms — Woodstock

A five-acre farm that's popular with Cherokee County families. Admission is free, and you pay only for what you pick. It’s an easy option for a casual morning in the fields.

Worth the Drive

Mercier Orchards — Blue Ridge

Make a day of it in the North Georgia mountains. Mercier offers u-pick berries along with tractor rides, an orchard market and plenty of treats to take home.

Southern Belle Farms — McDonough

Better known for its fall activities, Southern Belle also makes summer fun with blueberries, blackberries and peaches, plus plenty of activities for kids.

Tuckaway Blueberry Farm — Loganville

A family-owned farm with more than 500 rabbiteye blueberry bushes and a relaxed, local-farm feel.

DJ’s U-Pick Berry Farm — Lawrenceville

A convenient option for families around Gwinnett County. The farm offers u-pick berries, so bring a container and check ahead for current availability and payment details.

Feldwood Farms — Atlanta

One of the more convenient choices for families on Atlanta’s south side, with summer u-pick opportunities and no appointment typically required.

A Few Tips Before You Go

• Go early. Mornings are cooler and usually more comfortable for picking.

  
  

• Check before you leave. Weather and ripe berries can change a farm’s hours from day to day.

• Keep berries dry. Refrigerate them unwashed and wash them right before eating.

• Freeze your extras. If you picked more than you can eat, wash and dry the berries completely before freezing.

• Bring the kids. Let them pick their own berries — just be prepared for a few to disappear before you make it home!
